MAGNETIC ISLAND

19.1385° S, 146.8339° E

How to describe this place? The butterflies of anticipation as I boarded the ferry.

A new destination. A place to explore.

Whipping past sailboats on sparkling water.

Greeted by crystal clear water interspersed with lime green pine trees and boulders straight out of Jurassic park.

I spent the day walking. Walking to get to know the place. Absorbing the colours, sights and sounds of this magical slice of earth.

NOTES

Smells like:

Wattle and in some places close to the backpacker areas, aftershave.

Sounds like:

Water through sand. Kids playing along the shoreline.

Looks like (colours):

That cool, calm fuchsite coloured water. Pine green. Vibrant yellow wattle. Sunset reflections on a silky grey sea. Sea moss green on rocks of grey and brown bisque, dotted with purple and white oysters.

_____________________________

Feels like:

The anticipation of a new place. Nostalgia of barges and ferries long ago travelled. A rush of memory – Timor, Solomon Islands, Fraser Island. Hikes in the sunshine. Sweat. Feet in crystal clear water and sand between toes.

Tastes like:

Being so busy exploring that you forget to eat…and instead cram some tiny teddies and a can of solo before the bus arrives to take you back to the ferry.
